Cochran Names New Republican Clerk for Energy & Water Appropriations Subcommittee
In addition to naming Apostolou, Cochran also announced that Tyler Owens, staff counsel to U.S. Senator Robert Bennett (R-Utah), will join the Senate Appropriations Committee as professional staff. Bennett is the ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee.
"Carrie Apostolou has a wealth of experience on the Appropriations Committee, and I believe she will continue to serve the committee well in her new role as Republican clerk for the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee," Cochran said. "I am also pleased to welcome Tyler Owens to the Committee staff."

Her professionalism and expertise is invaluable. Tyler has done an outstanding job as my senior counsel and public lands and energy expert. I am confident he will be a tremendous asset to me on the subcommittee and serve the other committee members with the same skill and dedication."
Apostolou is currently the Republican clerk for the Senate Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee. She has served on the Senate Appropriations Committee as a professional staff member since 1987, including an assignment with the Veterans´ Affairs, Housing and Urban Development and Independent Agencies Subcommittee. She is a 1985 graduate of Wake Forest University.
Apostolou replaces Scott O´Malia, who has been confirmed as a commissioner on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
"Scott is a dedicated public servant with intelligence, integrity and energy," added Bennett. "His expertise has been a tremendous contribution to the subcommittee, and I wish him all the best in his new endeavor as a commissioner at the CFTC."
Tyler has been Bennett´s staff counsel since 2006, and previously worked as a self-employed consultant and as a legislative aide on the House Committee on Resources. He received his undergraduate degree from Utah State University and his law degree from George Mason University School of Law.
