1. Fall Foliage

Take even just a small walk around our property and by our fishing pond to see an array of colors. Areas worth visiting include the Feather River Canyon, Lake Almanor, Indian Valley, the Quincy-Oroville Road, the Quincy-La Porte Road, Blairsden-Graeagle and the Lakes Basin. Some of the best colors may be found off-road on a trail or on forest service roads.

Take a fifteen minute drive to Gold Lake Road outside of the nearby town of Graeagle. As you drive up this road you will pass through the Lake Basin area and come across many small lakes including Gold Lake all surrounded by the changing hues of gold, yellow, and red. You will also get to enjoy the amazing views of the Sierra Buttes. Continue onto highway 44 to enjoy the small towns of Sierra City and Downieville.

Located only 30 minutes from Chalet View Lodge is the quaint town of Quincy, California. Quincy is surrounded by beautiful fall colors as it boasts maples, sycamores and liquid ambers. Traveling in from highway 70 on the southeast end you will find oak, maple, and poplar trees.

2. Bird Watching in the Sierra Valley

The National Audubon Society has rated Sierra Valley among the Top Bird Watching destinations in the United States. 260 bird species have been seen throughout the valley and atleast 160 are known to breed in the area. Birds include waterfowl, hawks, phalaropes, and meadowlarks. Again take a short drive up to the Lake Basin area where you will come across the Sand pond. Here you will have many sighting opportunities of not only the birds of the area but of other wildlife such as beavers and deer.
