The Irrelevance of Osama Bin Laden

Dale Netherton
Every time the war in Iraq is mentioned to a Democrat we hear the accusation that Osama still hasn’t been caught and/or destroyed; therefore, the war on terror is not being successfully fought. The war is not being executed very well at all but this has nothing to do with the demise of Osama Bin Laden. If we were fighting the Second World War again and Hitler was isolated in a remote part of Pakistan and only occasionally appeared on suspicious audio tapes instead of standing openly before masses of cheering supporters, he would be considered irrelevant. A leader in hiding isn’t a leader anymore than a king in exile is a meaningful king.

If indeed Osama has any influence in the Jihad movement his example of cowardly hiding has stripped him of all credibility. Preaching the glory of death while clinging to a timid existence is like a general calling for an infantry charge from a pay phone. A leader must exhibit bravery to lead . Viewing a stumbling shepard-like image isolated from the world by running away from the conflict he craves, only shows followers a different message than the threats and battle courage he speaks of.

If Osama is not dead , he might as well be. Any pretentious zealot can take on the habitat of a hermit and denounce whatever he disagrees with. The state Osama is in is probably far worse than an American prison where he would get far more coverage and sympathy than from the Pakistani voles listening to his howls from their underground burrows under the barren night sky.

But this is the person the Democrats are worried hasn’t been captured. They aren’t worried about a madman in Tehran riling up crowds of haters of Western civilization or a tin horn Hezbullah loudmouth declaring victory after being decimated in a country that he doesn’t officially govern. No these visible enemies are not the worry of the Democrats...George Bush is. Now any body knows George Bush is not going to run in the next election and and his replacement ( if a Republican ) will have no Bush legacy to continue. And that election is over two years away. Yet do we hear any Democrats daily denouncing the atrocities of the terrorist state leaders? No, all we hear is a worry that if we don’t stir up the hornets they will leave us alone.

Listen up Democrats. Those big mouths in Tehran and Beruit are threatening us and our allies. They are not just threatening George Bush ( which by the way is one of your fellow Americans ) but all Americans. If you want to get voter support you better wake up and realize you and Osama walking over a steep perilous landscape are portraying a similarity in your leadership. You’re out of touch, you’re ineffective. you’re speaking to the night sky and you have an insignificant part in the struggle for survival. America is looking for a leader and had to settle for George Bush because the Democrats had nothing to offer but anti-Bush rhetoric. And what is being done in preparation for presenting a leader to the American public to put a stop to this assault on our freedom and way of life? A former first lady who couldn’t face up to the reality of her husband’s philandering until the whole nation knew? A former vice president advocating wild eyed scenarios of doom from a heat wave while killers stalk our shores? A presidential candidate that talked of his veteran status ad nauseam and speaks of international cooperation as if he had no idea what an ineffective American hating organization the U.N. is? Osama ( if alive ) is sitting on a rock ,out of touch with the rest of the world wondering what he can do to get attention and support. I wonder if he is a closet Democrat?
