Frank Lampard had a free kick fter a foul on Crouch on ten minutes but failed to score. The game seemed to drag along with not a lot happening when a Johnson mistake nearly gave Belarus the equaliser at thirty-two minutes and shortly after a 1-2-3 free kick from Belarus was saved by Foster. Crouch was there again with a near miss just before the half time whistle.
So, after thoughts that England might have had three or four in the net by half time after the early goal - it never materialised and you could tell by Capello's body language as he walked off that he wasn't a happy man.
After the break Korilenko got a yellow card for bringing down Wright-Phillips with a nasty tackle. The first fifteen minutes of the second half went as slow as the first half but everything livened up after fifty seven minutes when David Beckham appeared to the cheers of the crowd. And, two minutes later Wright -Phillips scored from a corner from Beckham.
The best scoring chance of the game came from Belarus when Foster made a fantastic instinctive save with his left hand. Crouch scored his second on seventy-five minutes just after Carlton Cole had tested the keeper.
Substitute Milner hit the upright after eighty six minutes and was unlucky not to score and soon after the same thing happened for Beckham who has never scored at Wembley. Steve Bruce named David Beckham as the Nationwide man of the match much to the surprise of some people.
So after nine out of ten wins in this campaign under Capello it's off to South Africa in 2010. Have Your Say At Talk Football Today
