Change is important, but without adoption the ROI is unrealized. The ironic part is that change is very simple to explain, but getting people to change is the difficult part. We suggest a 4 step process in BATMANNīs Change Acceleration practice.

1) Focus on Leadership and Securing Stakeholders

In addition to tightly defined scope, reasonable schedule, and adequate budget, the project team must have strong, focused, and informed leadership. This will ensure that the champion is committed to seeing thru the inevitable trials, tribulations and political battles that will result in the process of adopting change.

The project team must evaluate all stakeholders for their level of criticality to the project success, and then assess their level of support and/or resistance. The team should then develop a plan to engage each stakeholder based on the team assessment and execute contingency plans to solve identified issues.

2) Create Compelling Business Need and Share the Future State

The project team should use workshop analysis to support a compelling business need that stands within the context of the identified culture.

The project team must socialize the compelling business need in conjunction with the "new and improved" process or procedure of the future with all those affected with vigor and excitement.

3) Have a Transition map and status reporting structure

The project team should use a transition map to clearly communicate the plan to all the stakeholders and affected parties to assist in securing buy in and follow-thru. The culture, as it relates to the specific context within the organization(s) that will be adopting desired change, must be addressed and assessed.

4) Engage support and resistance

A well-developed communication plan is essential to ensure structure exists around the change project. Individuals must be on board with the implementation strategy as well as the vision and shared future state. The most important concept needed in this process is to leverage the MAJORITY of supporters and be aware and careful not to dwell on resistance once there is a majority supporting the transition.

5) Integrate Change

Very simple- the process must be followed. The primary reason for investing in a solution is to SOLVE a particular problem.
