What’s Is Israel To Do?

Ken Hughes
I’ve never understood the hostility toward Jews. They’re one of the least-aggressive people on earth until challenged; only then do they become Lyons protecting their turf. Until 1948 and the establishment of Israel as a nation they were enslaved, humiliated, persecuted and even murdered for no other reason than they were Jews. After 2,000 years they stood and said no more. The Israelis built a nation from the rocks and sands of a desert with a standard of living second to none. They created a nation from a land for thousands of years thought to be untamable. Israelis through diligence and hard work turned the golden sands and brown rocks of Palestine into a green garden. This is something the Arabs had never considered. Those Arabs [i.e.] Palestinians have yet to turn their swards into plow shears and make their part of Palestine into anything; they choose instead to act like beggars living off the handouts of others.

Again what have Jews done to deserve such a reputation? I intend to keep asking this question until I get a satisfactory answer.

The Israelis are accused of occupying Palestinian lands; this of course is simply not true. Jews have been a part of the Holy Land since the days of Abraham. The word Palestine is neither Arab nor Hebrew; it’s derived from the Greek word Philistine. In all its history Palestine has never been a nation until it was accepted as such by the Israelis.

I ask again what is it about Jews that garners so much hatred? What have they done to deserve 2000 years of persecution?

Israel has finally chosen to aggressively go after those who for years have harassed their civilian population, murdering them indiscriminately. Palestinians [a misnomer] have attacked Israel with suicide bombers, rocket attacks and kidnappings for years. Israelis have responded in kind, [minus suicide bombings] incident-for-incident. Tit-for-tat hasn’t been effective. What is Israel to do? Accept these attacks and smile? It’s a well-known fact Palestinian parents were selling their children to the PLO hierarchy to become martyrs. According to sources, the parents were paid $2,500 each by no less than Saddam Hussein; now I suspect they’ll be paid by Iran. How can Israel deal with people who care more for money and an ideology than their children? How can Israel deal with a mentality stuck in the 5th century that teaches their children only hatred and devastation?

Israel abides by every standard of human behavior practiced in the western world. Everyone in Israel including Arab residents are assured their civil rights. Women are as free as men; they enjoy equal treatment in all phases of life. In many instances, Arab men treat their women worse than domestic animals and, yet, there’re those who defend them. More than any group on this earth, Israel has offered the hand of friendship to those who claim to be Palestinians -- not for brotherly love but, rather, for security and peace to peruse the better things in life other than the destructions of war.

Israel cordoned off a portion of Palestine for Palestinians. They even built a wall to separate themselves from the suicide bombers. Israel is recognizing Palestine as an independent nation --something not even the UN recognizes. The more Israel gives, the more is demanded. Have these reformed Bedouins earned the right to nationhood? Are they capable of building a nation of peaceful coexistence and not continual hostilities toward their neighbors?

When Palestinians accept the 21st century as a fact and join in, peace will be possible. As long as they live in the past of a thousand years ago, until then what is Israel to do?
