Explicit Song Lyrics Are Not The Only Things Responsible For Teen Sexual Promiscuity

Judy Ramsook
Racy, explicit song lyrics can have an influence on the mind, all the more so since music is known to be quite the universal and communicative language that it has been over the years.

When it comes to the matter of teens being promiscuous and sexually irresponsible, does it go way deeper than any song lyric though? Is it a combination of different things?

One does not have to take a long time to observe this. Sexual innuendos are everywhere it seems. Pick up any celebrity type magazine, and look at who’s on the front cover? An attractive model, actor or all round entertainer who is strking a pose that is indicative of anything sexual or sensual.

Apart from that, sexual innuendos can be found in many other forms as well. Television shows, movies, sometimes there are innuendos even in the commercials.

Certainly, some of those music videos with models/actors flaunting almost everything they have got, including the wearing of skimpy clothing and body language to suit some of those racy lyrics, are rather thought provoking, but it seems that this sexual promiscuity issue can be influenced by a combination of most things society has been dishing out over time.

Does the phrase sex sells come to mind? It seems the more sexually appealing a product is, the more likely it is to be a hot seller, be it a music cd, movie, magazine, romance novels, sexual stimulants or enhancement products such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, one gets the idea.

If one wants to successfully market or sell something, all he/she has to do is place a little sexual innuendo in it and it just might be a hot seller. It gets people's attention.

Then while the teen is taking in all of that, there are other things he/she is coping with too, such as peer pressure, raging hormones, easy access to sexual partners and or the need to fit in with the crowd, and self esteem or self worth issues in his/her school life.

Moreover, one does not have to be in a committed relationship in order to have sex with some one, not in this day of casual sex where it seems like anyone can get just about anything he/she desires if he/she looks in the right place or personal ad.

People are asking for what they want. One does not have to look too far for examples of that either, just check out some of those ads on the craigslist.org site, not forgetting the sexual predators/pedophiles who frequent the myspace.com site.

There is one thing parents can do though. Never stop talking to or with their teens about sexual responsibility, for sexual promiscuity does not just begin and end with racy music lyrics or videos.

A little touch of it can be in everything we see or read. No one thing is responsible for enabling some one to do something of a sexual nature, sometimes it’s a combination of different things that can influence one to perform that particular act. The old fashioned motive used to be love, and in many cases it still is.
