PhD Thesis

Kenneth Elliott
A PhD thesis by description is a document compiled by a candidate that indicates their research and findings in relation to their field of study. It is one of the most important documents submitted by a candidate and in some cases, it determines whether the said candidate does make the professional qualification or not. Writing a thesis is not some task that can be done overnight. It involves a lot of research and understanding and can take anywhere from weeks do months. The typical thesis is quoted at 40 pages though there are others that go as far as 100 pages plus.

The beginning of a PhD thesis is marked by the submission of a written proposal to the supervisor. This is generally called a thesis proposal. The proposal is an outline and a guide that the professor can use in getting to know what the candidate has in mind and if it is the right thing that they should do. The thesis proposal is the guide to writing the thesis and includes every detail that is discussed further in the thesis itself. Submission to the professor or generally the instructor is basically for approval and correction so that the thesis may be near perfection. It´s advised that candidates don´t start on writing their thesis until their proposals are approved. This is usually the green light and prevents them from making mistakes down the road.

When you go ahead to writing your PhD thesis, its always best to start with the introduction. A thesis is always arranged in chapter form and the first one should contain the introduction. It is at this point that you make it known the reasons for going that way in your research. You are supposed to highlight previous work done that is similar to your thesis topic. Justify the topic itself and inform the reader the goals that you hoping to achieve at the end. Its important to think of your success in theory and predict the results that you are hoping to achieve.

The following chapter should be a literal composition of previous works from other authors who have addressed the topic that you chose. It´s advised that you get the very best of publications here. The aim of this is that it helps you, the researcher in this case, have a focus on the goals that you are hoping to achieve. The PhD thesis statement comes in the succeeding chapter. It´s also here that the details are written down together with the hypothesis that the researcher has formulated.

Chapter four is where the methodology is discussed. All the methods for data collection and research findings are listed down. The results of these methods are enumerated in the chapter following. The last two chapters highlight the analysis made and sums up the whole project. Reflections and interpretations are usually welcome at this point because it gets the reader into the mind of the researcher. That is the general guide of what a PhD thesis is supposed to appear like.
