Senator Joe Lieberman, Don Quixote or Poncho

Ken Hughes
Whether Senator Lieberman wins his party’s primary today will tell political pundits who controls the vote the public or the party. Speculation and predictions are running wild. Senator Lieberman has been one of those politicians who’s always been one vote short of achieving his stated ambitions.

Senator Lieberman seems to have been Poncho to the Don Quixote, [Mr. Also Ran] for most of his political career. Senator Lieberman is the one who always stands just to the right or the left of the person telling us what congress is doing about a particular subject. Senator Lieberman has accomplished much in his political career with little credit. His legislative work involves the mundane the things that keeps this country afloat. The hot button issues Senator Lieberman leaves to the dandies of the senate, we know who they are.

It’s my hope Senator Lieberman loses the privilege of representing his party in the fall elections and runs as an independent then creams the competition.

This would send a message through punditry and politics the voter’s choice is the man not the party.

There’s a wall consisting of political activists who worm their way to the top of the party’s leadership. These people set standards candidates must meet, a new candidate or a candidate with different views can climb the nearly impossible high road in their attempt to achieve victory or they can take the well traveled low road trough the mud and muck of compromised that usually assures victory. For most of his career Senator Joe Lieberman has taken the high road.

This is why I as a Registered Republican would vote for Lieberman if I were a resident of his state.
