Protecting Rapists in California
Thanks to the no votes of two of the most relentless women’s rights activists in the Senate, SB 520 died in the public safety committee. Gal radicals Gloria Romero and Carole Migden don't like the bill because certain youthful rapists would be ineligible for community-based "rehabilitation" programs and will therefore be remanded to the care of the evil California Youth Authority (CYA).
For those who don't follow criminal justice issues in our Big Blue state, Romero has waged a no holds barred war on the CYA and its staff for several years. With the assistance of the media, radical "juvenile justice activists", felon friendly judges and a truly clueless Arnold Schwarzenegger, Romero's efforts have resulted in the down sizing of the CYA from about 8,000 wards to less than 2,000, meaning thousands of very violent young criminals are now being left to maraud in the communities where they committed their crimes. This is done in the name of treatment and rehabilitation.
When the so called treatment of violent criminals becomes the number one priority of the criminal justice system, as it has in California, public safety is not.
