WHERE WAS GOD?

Julio Almanza
Two women, both friends, engaged in a conversation about the existence of God inside a bar one lonely night. The Brunette did not believe in God. The Blond, on the other hand, did.

The Blond told the Brunette, "God is everywhere. God is in the stars and earth and inside all of us."

"I don´t believe that," said the Brunette.

"Why not?" Asked the Blond.

The Brunette answered, "Where was God when I was raped by my fifteen year old cousin when I was twelve? Where was God when my mom kicked me out of the house when I turned seventeen? Where was God when my first husband left me for a younger woman when I was eight months pregnant? Where was God when I was in labor for ten hours, alone with no friends or family by my side? Where was God when my ex-boyfriend of six years demeaned me and cheated on me throughout that time? Where was God when I needed him the most?"

The Blond simply shook her head and replied, "What has happened to your cousin who raped you?"

"He is doing life in prison for raping his ex girlfriend."

"Where did you go when your mother kicked you out of the house at seventeen?"

"My first husband let me live in his house for free while I looked for a job and finished high school."

"Did your ex husband marry the woman he left you for?"

"No. She left him and stole all of his money leaving him broke."

"When you gave birth, how did you feel?"

"It was the happiest day of my life."

"And what has happened to your ex boyfriend of six years who demeaned you and cheated on you?"

"He now works odd jobs not knowing what he wants in life because he injured his elbow thus ending his baseball career."

"What are you doing with your life at this moment?"

"I am attending UCI finishing up my Masters Degree for education and psychology."

"While doing that, you have been raising your daughter alone, work a well paying job that can sustain the both of you?"

"Yeah."

"Sounds to me God has been carrying you for years."

I'm student at Orange Coast Community College and an avid reader of the news. I'm majoring in political science with a minor in film and creative writing. Ever since I was a child, I was always fascinated with politics and government ever since I bore witness to the first Gulf War of 1990. I was only eight years old, but right then and there the first question that popped up in my head was: Why did we fight in the first place? And how does one democratic country decide to wage war against another country? Now I'm twenty four years old and I'm still asking the same questions, but not finding any clear answers.
