Auto Transport the Answer in Attaining Island Paradise

Andy West
You've got the perfect house, the perfect island location, the perfect new life. Getting your car there, on the other hand, is another matter. That's where Auto Transport comes in: With an car transport company, you can move your car anywhere, even across water.

Generally, when people think of car transport, they think about trucks moving cars cross-country. You see this all the time for dealerships, and sometimes the cars even still have the white protective film on them to protect the paint job. The driver picks up cars, loads them on his rig one by one, and drives across the country, dropping the vehicles off along his route.

Although that is indeed one way of transporting cars, it's not the only way. Believe it or not, there is a demand for transporting vehicles overseas. It is not unheard of for people to move to another country overseas, and just because someone is moving doesn't meant they want to have to sell their car and get a new one. If the move is temporary, they might consider storing their car until they come back, but a permanent move will require their vehicle to follow them by boat. Even a national move -- for instance, from somewhere in the continental United States to Hawaii -- means shipping your car across the water by boat.

Another scenario that requires a car to be shipped overseas is when someone buys a car from another country and has it brought into their country. Certain kinds of cars, such as the Nissan Skyline from Japan, are quite popular in other countries and are frequently brought over via boat. Of course, if the vehicle is a difficult one to find in your country, as the Skyline is in the United States, the cost of bringing it into the country will often factor into its value in the new country.

Here are a few things to keep in mind whenever you are shipping a car by boat:

Don't leave any personal belongings or valuables in the vehicle when it is being transported. Your car has a long ways to go and will be handled by many people along the way. Leaving valuables such as jewelry or money is tempting someone to relieve you of it. Even the paperwork you leave in the glove box can be valuable to a criminal, who could use it to steal your identity. Locks can be picked or broken, so don't take chances, and take everything out of the car instead of trying to lock it in the glove box.

Be ready or make the appropriate arrangements for pickup and drop off. The auto transport company should provide you with estimated pickup and drop off times. If you can't be there when the car is picked up and dropped off, be sure to make arrangements so that someone you trust is there in your stead.

Know what you'll have to do for registration and emissions in the new place. Countries can vary quite a bit in their regulations and requirements of car owners. If you are moving the car across country lines, you may have significant modifications to make in order to bring the vehicle's operation into compliance. Also, you will probably need to register the vehicle in the new place. Be sure to consult the local authorities to find out what you will need to do.

There is a lot involved in transporting a car over water, especially if you are crossing country lines. However, thanks to auto transport, just because you are moving across the water doesn't mean you can't take your car with you!
