Bethany Beach Delaware The Quiet Resorts Vacation Home Locations by Summer Home Expert Jay Hauck
The daily grind: traffic, gridlock, crowds.
Does this sound like you? Every morning Dan gets up early and he and his wife, with their two kids hustle through breakfast to get out the door. The kids head to long days at school and Dan and Kristi, to their jobs, after an hour´s commute. Three school zones, one construction project, and two accidents later, they "start" their day. The work load is piling up because the company laid off people to save money, passing those tasks onto the remaining "lucky" ones. This summer it´s rained nearly every single day. In the spring they took a "staycation" but cabin fever is setting in. The thought of staying home isn´t very attractive for their next few days off. Dan and Kristi want to take their kids and go get a change of scenery.
"Touristy" areas: traffic, gridlock, crowds.
Dan and Kristi live in Richmond and wanted to head somewhere within a few hours´ drive. One of the goals was to stay OUT of the car and IN the water so they decided to focus on the eastern shore. The kids´ friends had been to the area and it seemed there was a plethora of things to do, so Kristi made their reservations and the started looking forward to watching the sunset, walking the boardwalk, and hours of swimming.
Getting there, they started to see they might have missed the mark. They didn´t realize the area resembles a large city in the summer. The six lanes of traffic they had to navigate just to get to the beach or to dinner were frustrating. The boardwalk was an exercise in trying to walk and not quite look at everything around them, as Dan and Kristi felt their kids were bombarded with crazy images and thick crowds of sweaty, tired vacationers. They really just wanted a break from this very thing: heat, traffic, and crowds.
Bethany Beach, Delaware: Quiet, family-oriented, room to breathe.
Two days in their trip Dan was talking to Bruce, someone he´d just met at the newsstand. Dan had made a mention of not being excited of the day´s coming crowds and Bruce told him about the area´s "Quiet Resorts": Bethany Beach and surrounding towns in Sussex County. On the Delaware coast, there are year round activities, an emphasis on a family-friendly atmosphere, and a much lower density population and slower pace. Dan and Kristi audibly sighed when they arrived. The calm, natural vacation they´d been wanting was finally theirs. In the morning they perused the Farmer´s Market and later that evening, watched a pristine sunset while listening to the live jazz at the bandstand. They were relaxed and their next thought was not too surprising: "Wouldn´t it be nice to live this way all the time?"
