There Are Still Peaceful Places If You Look

Ken Hughes
For several weeks I’ve felt the need to go somewhere the world’s problems can’t reach me. That place is a cabin on the shores of Lake Michigan near where it joins with Lake Superior and Lake Huron. That part of Michigan is virtually untouched by modern cavitations. My friend’s cabin has no telephone, no television, and no internet connection he doesn’t even have a radio in the Cabin. In other words if someone really wants to get away they should make friends with a recluse.

I didn’t know until I returned yesterday Mel Gibson was a confirmed alcoholic and an anti-Semitic. Now that I know I’m not sure I think it detracts from his many talents. All it proves is Mr. Gibson is a hypocrite in a world full of hypocrites. I don’t know Mr. Gibson personally so I can’t say I really care one way or the other that he’s not perfect. There’s this thing in our constitution that says one can express an opinion no matter how abhorrent that opinion is.

Israel is catching hell for defending themselves against an organized terrorist militia. The interesting thing about this conflict between Israel, Hezbollah and Hamas is no one is calling for Israel to cease and desist. Even the Arab countries that would normally support the terrorists have a [but] in their statements calling for restraint. Perhaps they’re painfully aware Iran is calling the shots and Iranians are Persians not Arab. They’re worried they’ll be next once the Jews and infidels are out of the way.

This was to be the summer of hurricanes. Since it doesn’t seem they’ll be forthcoming the media is forced to find another culprit for their march to global warming. This of course proves Mother Nature is nonpartisan and is not controlled by liberal men or the more liberal media.

The first day of my retreat in isolation was similar to what I went through when I quit smoking after 40 years and 2 packs a day. Withdrawal is a bitch with a lot of determination and the necessary isolation it can be done. Do I feel better for it I probably do but like many alcoholics, drug addicts and smokers I find myself back in the same old environment I spent a week avoiding. So much for willpower, now I’ll be obliged to write about things I detest and hope a few others feel the same way. It’s back to the same old addiction, the Internet and TV.
