Living on the Edge: US/Mexico Border

Allan J. Ashinoff
To most of America immigration is a distant issue. But that's not the way those in Arizona and other border states view this topic. In those states illegal migration is a very serious issue which threatens not only our culture and our safety but jeopardize the very principals of the American way of life as we know it.

It’s doubtful that many Americans outside of the southern border states with Mexico truly understand the seriousness of illegal immigration. States like Illinois, New York, New Jersey , or Nebraska may notice more people speaking Spanish but it is not until one actually visits places like Tucson or Nogales Arizona that the severity of the issue becomes too obvious to ignore. It is estimated that just the Arizona border with Mexico is crossed by 8,000 to 10,000 illegal immigrants on any given day.

It is not until one actually lives in a place like Arizona that one can see the diabolical nature of the Mexican government and the truly lackadaisical and in some cases treasonous attitude of the US Federal Government and the Arizona state government. As far north as Phoenix, approximately 200 miles from the boarder, the street corners and drive way entrances near almost any Home Depot or Lowe’s store are cluttered with Mexicans looking for work. Are they illegal? Who can tell in America ? The better question is: who checks to ensure their citizenship? The frightening answer appears to be no one. Even when illegal immigrants are identified by authorities they are often let go due to the lack of capability to handle the quantity of people apprehended.

In the last few years Phoenix has witnessed its share of debacles relating to illegal immigration. Schools in Phoenix are badly under funded. Kindergarten children receive only a half day of schooling and many classes are seated with 20-30 children per teacher. School weeks are shortened and teachers have “enrichment” days which take away from the calendar year. Yet the state is able to spend in the vicinity of $30 Million in North Scottsdale to build a day labor center for illegal aliens to meet potential employers. Employers should be fined for hiring undocumented aliens not catered to. More and more cities in Arizona are concerned about the appearance, safety factors, and congestion caused by this human “clutter”. The city of Scottsdale may have taken the lead in building this labor center and its administration building but many other cities in Arizona are considering doing the same.

Fact: America is for Americans. But surely one could never know this from the actions of the nation’s politicians. Arizona politicians are sacrificing America ’s future generations while providing privilege to those who have no claim to the fruits of American labor . Why? Because it helps the housing industry and it places more people dependant on the government for things like welfare, food stamps, and medical care. Social services provided to illegal aliens? Yes, to the tune of a $300-$500 Million dollar state deficit. Arizona Politicians cut funds to American children, they increase the tax burden on American citizens and businesses to maintain over bloated state programs to support a percentage of illegal immigrants all in the name of keeping up appearances. When Governor Janet Napolitano (D) addresses American citizens instructing them not to make a scene or raise commotion because Mexican President Vicente Fox wants to speak to "his people" in Phoenix ’s Civic plaza there must be a problem. Perhaps she forgot about the First Amendment, the right to assemble, and the God given right of every American to protest? One can only wonder what would happen if President Bush called for a meeting of illegal Americans in Mexico, or Germany, or Russia. Perhaps if President Bush provided fanny packs with water, condoms, first aid gear and even manuals on how to sneak into one of those nations and blend in they would react as favorably as America does to the Mexican invasion. The audacity of Vicente Fox! The blatant appeasement by US politicians giving away our national sovereignty without so much as a realistically patrolled border or a degree of resistance is criminal.

The United States currently has troops in many countries worldwide: Germany 69,200, Japan 40,100, South Korea 38,500, Afghanistan 12,000, England 11,200, Italy 11,200, Portugal 3,000, Turkey 2,000 and many more in places like Kosovo and Kuwait. Yet only 9,150 border patrol agents extend across the 1,989 mile US border with Mexico? A border so porous that on any given day one can witness dozens of Mexicans crossing the border on the nightly news. Further those sneaking in shamelessly wave to the cameras as they scale walls and wade water. News patrols can find these actions easily enough to cover it, passers by can see illegal aliens outside Home Depot outlets at any time, yet DHS, the States, and the Federal Government can't get a handle on immigration?

Americans must come to realize how precious a commodity America is in today’s world. Americans need to learn that each American is a kinsman regardless of race, religion, or financial standing. The very thread which holds this nation together and draws millions from every corner of the globe is the American Dream. It’s alive and well and those outside the border can hear it loudly and will do anything to follow its tune to the nearest thing to the land of milk and honey on earth. Until such time that Americans once again cherish its national identity and reject the concept that wealth means evil they will sacrifice the well being of future generations to try to soothe this misguided guilt complex it has. America is for Americans and those who wish to become American. Politicians desperately need to remember and understand this simple fundamental reality. Citizens must hold their elected officials accountable for the destruction they do.
