Toronto Psychologist Donna Ferguson Puts Inner Strength Before Drugs

Mike Catherall
Ever since Freud first analyzed the dreams of his patients on a leather recliner in an office full of antiques, only to prescribe doses of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), barbiturates and cocaine, psychologists have walked a fine line between drug-based therapy, hypnosis and a cognitive approach.

Licensed psychoanalysts have medical degrees and are permitted to prescribe drugs to their patients. This has proven to be extremely effective for some cases, such as schizophrenia and mood disorders, however it is not the answer to every scenario.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is study of the human brain that believes that neural pathways are connected, and consistent, and that the human mind that can studied, and even healed through a logical analysis of patterns, much like you would study a computer.

Toronto psychologist Donna Ferguson makes use of cognitive behavioral therapy to effectively treat everything from addictive behavior, to phobias, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Her belief is rooted in finding the inner strength within individuals to resolve issues in addition to or in lieu of psychotropic drugs. Sometimes in conjunction with meds CBT is more effective.

So far, Donna has been successful in using this type of therapy.
