Simpsonville Man Guilty of Possession of Child Pornography

COLUMBIA, SC—United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated today that Berry Richard Greer, age 45, formerly of Simpsonville, South Carolina, now residing in Texas, entered a plea of guilty to Possession of Child Pornography. The guilty plea was accepted yesterday by Federal District Court Judge Henry Floyd, sitting in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Judge Floyd will sentence Greer after the preparation of a Presentence Report. Greer faces a sentence of up to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.00.
Greer was fired from his employment at a Greenville firm after child pornography was discovered on his work computer. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was called in and agents learned that Greer had obtained over 600 images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct from the Internet and had stored these images on his computer. Greer admitted to the conduct and cooperated fully in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David C. Stephens of the Greenville office.
