Why I Like America
There are a few reasons for this. Some people are quite happy in their own home countries and may visit some places in the US for a mere shopping spree. When that spree is over, such individuals are happy to return to their home land.
There are also a few persons who have experienced severe culture shock upon seeing how difficult it can be for them to adjust to an American lifestyle.
In fact, this writer once knew some one from a European country who left the US just after being in it for a couple of days. The culture shock for her was too overwhelming.
More over, there are also others who have said that they do not prefer the American lifestyle. From what this writer has observed though, America does have its good points. Below are just a few.
Take the way the homes are constructed for instance. They are built to accommodate modern conveniences such as dishwashers, central air conditioning/heating, natural gas lines in the kitchen and proper water heater connections.
In some countries where there is no proper central air conditioning accommodations, window units are installed instead. Something this writer thinks is rather noisy.
If one is in one room where the window air conditioner is being used and some one in another room is trying to get your attention by calling out your name, you might not hear him/her.
Call me spoiled, but this writer prefers to have her dishes sterilized in the dishwashing machine as opposed to having them washed by hand. With so many germs in the atmosphere these days, one can never be certain enough, but the convenience of the dishwasher solves that little dilemna.
Preventive and efficient health care. In some third world countries, some people who have reached their dying stage would rather succumb to the grim reaper than to visit a medical facility in their own country.
The reasons? Inadequate service, costly medical expenses, and they are not sure what kind of treatment they will receive for their condition once they arrive at whatever medical facility they decide to go to.
Also the progressive mentality of some of the people, politicians and philanthropists. Maybe this is one of the reasons the US is such a successful nation. People who have the power and money are always looking ahead for ways to keep their people educated and employed, as opposed to the leaders in some third world countries.
For some leaders in less fortunate countries might not have a clue as to how to make its country better so its people can live a comfortable lifestyle.
In some countries, the problem is so bad, it’s almost impossible to live on a fixed income with all the price gouging that is taking place.
It’s sad, but some of those leaders are busy looking after their own interests, or checking on their accounts they have in those Swiss banks, or buying a mansion in some other nation so when they leave office they can still carry on with their comfortable lifestyle.
Although many people may sacrifice a bit of a struggle to get to the US, for others it might not be their cup of tea. Some will choose to stay where they are already established, in their own country rather than go elsewhere where they will have to start anew.
But if one is young, willing to undergo a bit of a cultural difference or two, and is willing to adapt to a better life, even though it might not come easy at first, the US is a beautiful place and more so if you have taken a liking to it.
