What You Sow Into Your Children's Lives Now, Will Effect Them and the Future of Your Family Tree
Once we take the path of the wicked and walk in the way of evil, it sets us on a course of trouble and a searing of our conscience. It brings torment of soul, and it will be next to impossible to find our way back into the light, unless the Lord intervenes.
It is better not to start down that dark and twisted road. That is why we must, when young, be taught the right moral course to take.
Once a person becomes familiar with evil ways they become hardened and blinded to the wrong, and then, being perverted, they can actually get pleasure in hurting others.
That is why it's imperative that parents are examples for their children to emulate, and train them while they are young and pliable, when it is easier to mold their character.
This takes effort and getting involved in our children's lives and spending quality time with them.
What parents sow into the first 10 years of their children's lives, could determine not only their own children, but their lineage and the many generations to come long after parents pass from the scene of life.
Though the following story is an example of the impact my grandfather had on my life and is not about my parents, the application to these scriptural verses is the same:
I remember when I was a child of about ten; my grandfather was a very vital part of my life. My family was at the time, living in a borough in New York City called the Bronx. My grandfather lived on the East side of the Bronx, and he would travel by bus, which took a good 30 to 45 minuets to our apartment housing on the west side.. He would baby sit me whenever my parents wanted to go out. He was an incredible storyteller. He would make up very detailed stories on the spot that captured my imagination. His influence set up in me, in the beginning of my childhood, an interest in story telling. And so, I began listening to the radio, when the radio had more creative things for children like story telling,. My parents bought me my first radio when I was about ten. Back when radio had programs like "X Minus One" which was sci-fi. I remember at the beginning of the program, they had this guy count down a rocket launching saying:"x minus 10, 9, 8," etc, until he would say at the end of the countdown, "blast off," and then you heard this incredibly loud sound of a rocket blasting off. Then the program story began with voice actors acting out a very riveting science fiction adventure story that held you captive till it's conclusion.
Latter on in high school I was the English teacher's pet and received high marks on my report card, not because I was good in English mind you, but because I would read stories with great passion that captured my classmate's interest. Now mind you these were mostly street hardened East side juvenile delinquents, that would sooner beat you up than look at you. These same classmates liked my reading so much that they would always ask the teacher if I could read to them. This was one of my very few positive experiences in public school.
Then, later on in my recent life, because of my relationship with Jesus Christ, I became interested in reading books to educate myself. The Lord re-awakened in me a love of learning and reading that most of my public school experience killed. God began to heal my revulsion to reading. He re-awakened what my grandfather had started through his story telling.
Then, still later on because of my interest in reading and the hunger for knowledge, I wanted to write, which has led me up to this moment.
What parents and grandparents sow into the life of their children and grandchildren has incredible ramifications. Try to encourage your children by finding the good that they do instead of always criticizing and correcting them and finding fault with them. An excellent web site to check out is Emilie Barnes, "More Hours in my day." She teaches a concept of "Catch Your Kids Doing Good." www.morehouse.bizland.com
So, spend time with your progeny while you have them in your care, when you are still able to shape their character, tomorrow may be to late!!
So listen to the wisdom of God, and "Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil."
P.S.: I just wanted you to know that I actually wrote this before I posted the last article by Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis titled,: "Are You Producing Primitives"? Often times when I'm reading the Proverb scripture series in my church, and making my comments to them, our two Pastor's will invariably talk about or hit on the same subject that we each are talking about, just like the one Ken Ham & I have done. So if I seem to be repeating myself with these two articles it's because it is a God thing, it's not just coincidence. Just thought you'd like to know, Bill.
