Where do we go from here?

John H. Adler
The Middle-East, now one of the hottest war zones in the world, has come to another important fork in the road. The formerly vast superiority of Israel’s armament and the very basic equipment of the Hezbollah are things of the past. The Hezbollah, a rogue organization without a country, has attached itself to Lebanon, taking it hostage like a deadly cancer.

This malignancy is fed by Iran and Syria and is in reality a joint military fifth column of these two countries. Cognizant of the fact that their actions will destroy Lebanon, they will continue to rearm Hezbollah with more sophisticated weapons, missiles that will be able to reach and destroy much of the center and south of Israel, in fact Israel itself. This is the proclaimed aim of the government of Iran.

I do not believe that the world can let this happen. Israel has the means to defend itself, but stops short of the use of nuclear weapons.

So where do we go from here?

Hezbollah is in reality a militia and an instrument of Iran and Syria. It must be totally removed from Lebanon. This cannot be accomplished without the participation of Iran and Syria, the puppet-masters who pull the strings of Hezbollah using it in an effort to destroy Israel.

In the worst scenario, the state of Israel would be so devastated that nuclear weaponry would come into play. And that would mean a third world war of unimaginable consequences.

Could a buffer-zone in the south of Lebanon be effective? Yes, if NATO forces, fully equipped and with authority to shoot at aggressors would be installed at strategic spots. This would mean the expulsion of Hezbollah from all of Lebanon and the sealing off of the Syrian/Lebanese border to insurgents.

There will be no peace in the Middle East in the foreseeable future. Sadly, the best that we can hope for is survival of its citizens.
