Lidocaine Infusion As Tinnitus Cure And The Success Rate

Mike Walden
Lidocaine infusions are a type of booster mode of treatment for tinnitus. However, a couple of issues have to be given due attention before actually going for this form of treatment, irrespective of how effective (or, otherwise) lidocaine infusion can be in curing tinnitus problems. Firstly, these methods provide extremely short-lived relief. The respite lasts two minutes to a maximum of only a couple of hours. Secondly, lidocaine infusions do not work in all situations. For example, if a benign tumor located in the ear, or any other external causes lies behind the origin of tinnitus, these methods cannot solve them. Even in the face of such limitations though, patients do opt for this as if this was their last resort.

Why do people actually choose to have lidocaine infusion even with such significant shortcomings? The main reason for that is, it is generally assumed that, the primary cause for the tinnitus is not anything so major that lidocaine cannot handle it. Patients also can be in favor of trying out, on an experimental basis, this mode of treatment. Certain other people may be relying on this as a certain panacea to their problems. However, there exists little or no basis for such beliefs. Indeed, any of these factors may be the cause behind the high popularity of lidocaine as a tinnitus treatment procedure, particularly in the face of the disadvantages of the method.

Viewed in retrospect, early records of lidocaine treatments for dealing with tinnitus can be found in history. The Egyptians used these methods extensively, as early as in 1600 BC. The noted Greek scholar and philosopher, Aristotle was also known to have suffered from tinnitus, and his writings portray the immense benefits of lidocaine infusion. However, in the old days, these problems were generally accepted by people as a part of everyday life that made an appearance with age. However, in the modern world the focus has now significantly shifted on the lidocaine infusion treatment. The quality of life is accorded prime importance and no one wishes to live with ailments. Hence, extensive studies are being conducted, so as to come up with a proper curative measure for tinnitus. These researches are making an attempt to identify the chief problem-creating factors and the ways in which these factors can be dealt with so that this ailment can be removed. When viewed in this manner, we can state that, individual lifestyles have an important role to play on the occurrence of tinnitus. The disease considerably diminishes the mental faculties of the affected person, as well as his/her powers to concentrate. Nor can (s)he sleep peacefully, due to numerous disturbances. The distress caused can be plainly read from the disposition of the individuals affected by it. As it stands now, over 44 million people in the United States suffer from tinnitus – a truly alarming scenario.

One can argue that, although the relief provided by lidocaine is transitory in nature, the method has met with high rates of success. However, the efficacy of lidocaine is not much better than the various over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. When this medication is introduced intravenously, it takes away all feelings from the end regions of nerves. This numbness is taken as a temporary respite. However, as soon as the numbness start to go away, the disturbing sounds of whooshing, ringing, crackling and hissing that are associated with tinnitus make a swift comeback.

Nor is lidocaine able to provide relief to everyone. A family can, in fact, be genetically insensitive to all forms of lidocaine treatment. Certain patients also have unique health issues, as a result of which, lidocaine fails to leave a mark. For example, patients suffering from dental anesthesia have an odd structure of nerve ends that render these treatments futile. In fact, several cases can be cited, where lidocaine do not yield any results. These can be listed as under:

Presence of second or third degree cardiac blockages and among those who do not use a pacemaker either,

Highly serious blockages in the sinoarterial regions, particularly in patients without a pacemaker,

Cases of hypertension, when arrhythmia is not its cause,

Bradycardia problems,

If the patient displays undesirable effects to lidocaine treatment, and

The presence of other powerful medicines, like guanidine, which might be simultaneously prescribed for patients.

The fact remains that, Lidocaine cannot be relied upon even for a short-term relief from tinnitus. When it is effective, it can at best cast a sort of spell, faking a short-lived respite from the ailment. However, this spell lasts for too short a period, and all the problems related to tinnitus come back immediately. We would next look into the holistic methods of treating tinnitus. These methods, in fact, appear to be the only curative measure that is effective. The main recommendations of holistic methods are:

Staying away from tobacco consumption in any form,

Discarding meat and all other meat-based food items, including sausages, bacon, ham, and other tinned meat products,

Not consuming any type of alcoholic drinks,

A diet chart built mainly around the consumption of vegetables, fruits whole grains and cereals,

Not making a decision to opt for herb-based medicines, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs or homeopathic treatment methods,

Using antibiotic drugs and similar other medicines that might prove to be ototoxic only if they are prescribed by noted medical practitioners,

As a relief measure from sinusitis problems, nasal sprays should not be used to prevent allergies, and

Practice of yoga as well deep breathing exercises on a regular basis.

Lidocaine infusion tinnitus success rate is no high at all, and patients should preferably opt for holistic methods of treatment

The causes for tinnitus problems that come from outside can be effectively fought only if the inherent immune system is strong .The holistic methods of treatment ensure precisely that, by altering the ways of living. Stress is also counted as one of the most important causes of tinnitus – suitable lifestyle changes can reduce stress levels.

Unlike the conventional treatment techniques, the holistic methods try to identify all of the several possible underlying causes of tinnitus, and then treat them accordingly. These methods consider the entire body as a single unit, and do not deal with the symptoms of tinnitus alone. In fact, these symptoms disappear on their own, as soon as the basic reasons of the disease are removed.
