Mountain Top Coal Mining Halted! Celebrate and Thank the E.P.A. Literally! Thank the E.P.A.!
Destroying Mountain Tops is a system of mining that the EPA should never have allowed to exist. It is now doing what it was designed to do, and that is work to protect the environment. All the E.P.A. has to do now is block the "Clipper" Oil Pipeline from spreading the GOO throughout the United States! Celebrate and keep fighting tooth and nail for change!...>
Dear Joseph,
Thank the EPA for taking a major step toward ending mountaintop removal mining!
We have very big news to share on mountaintop removal coal mining.
After eight long years of rubber-stamp permits during the Bush Administration, the EPA announced Friday that all 79 mountaintop removal permits submitted by the Army Corps of Engineers would likely violate the Clean Water Act.
Your show of support for the EPA's likely denial of these permits is critical to continue the momentum to end mountaintop removal coal mining. Thank the EPA today.
This is one of the most dramatic actions yet taken by the Obama administration to halt a process that destroys our lands and pollutes our communities with toxic mining waste.
Now the Army Corps has 60 days to review and revise their proposals, and we expect coal companies to spend this time pulling out all the stops in attacks on the EPA. King Coal will say and do anything they can to get away with as they try to reverse this decision.
Together we can make sure the EPA has the support it needs to stand strong against the coal industry. Thank them for taking a huge step toward ending mountaintop removal coal mining today!
Friday's announcement is a stark reminder that the coal industry is the beneficiary of loopholes that no other industry enjoys. It is time to close these loopholes, protect public health, and return the rule of law not just to Appalachia, but to all of America. It's time to end the hideous practice of mountaintop removal coal mining once and for all.
The EPA just took the first step--let them know we support efforts to regulate, and eventually end, mountaintop removal coal mining.
Thanks for all that you do to protect the environment.
