Republican Joe Wilson Must Resign

In a shocking and disgraceful display of contempt for the Commander-In-Chief of our armed forces, Republican Joe Wilson of South Carolina yesterday shouted, "You lie," at President Obama during his speech to a Joint Session of Congress. The vulgar and shocking outburst occurred immediately after the President informed the American people that his plan for health care coverage would not provide health care benefits for illegal immigrants.
Wilson apologized but admitted to reporters that he apologized not because he was sorry, but because the leadership wanted him to contact the White House and say his comments were "inappropriate."
Wilson´s statement read, "This evening, I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President's remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill." Wilson made this statement without acknowledging that it was actually he, Wilson, who was lying about the plan for health care coverage for illegal immigrants. Nor did Wilson explain why he did not apologize "on his own" for being disrespectful to the President and, rather, apologized only upon the request of leadership. Wilson´s follow up statements today before the press were rambling, incoherent, and hypocritical.
The non-partisan organization FactCheck.org has refuted the GOP claim that health care reform would require coverage for illegal immigrants. Interestingly, Wilson´s Democratic opponent in next year´s Congressional race, Rob Miller, raised over $200,000 last night after the outburst. Wilson refused to be interviewed today on CNN´s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.
Not surprisingly, Wilson is from the same state as Republican Mark Sanford, the conservative governor who has admitted to having an extramarital affair with a married woman he met eight years ago. Sanford has admitted to using taxpayer dollars to fly to Argentina and Brazil to meet his mistress. The GOP icon is opposed to same-sex marriage.

Wilson would have never made such an outrageous and disgraceful outburst from the Well of the People´s House had the President been a White man. There are currently 535 members of Congress, 100 U.S. Senators and 435 Members of the House of Representatives. Every member of Congress who is African American is a Democrat. There is not a single member of Congress who is both African American and Republican. Not one. This fact clearly and unmistakably demonstrates that the Republican Party base is racist. Sadly, the Republican Party used to be intelligent, conservative, and respected. But the Party has degenerated into a mob, catering to the uneducated and to Right-Wing extremists by spewing forth hatred and misinformation.
No wonder less than 15% of the American people are registered Republicans, while well over 65% of the voters are registered as Democrats or Independents.
Unfortunately, last night the American People, including school kids, had to listen to Republican Joe Wilson share his vomit with the world. Polls show that the vast majority of Americans believe Wilson´s behavior was abhorrent and disgusting.
So who does Joe Wilson think he is? Well, Wilson is not a patriot. Wilson is not an educated man. Wilson is not a Democrat. And Wilson is certainly not a representative of the American people.
Rather, Republican Joe Wilson is a liar and a coward. Republican Joe Wilson is a disgrace to our democracy. Republican Joe Wilson dishonors the tens of thousands of American soldiers who have sacrificed their lives to protect our freedoms. Republican Joe Wilson is a hypocrite. And, sadly, Republican Joe Wilson is another loathsome example of what the Republican Party has become.
Joe Wilson should be censored by Congress and forced to resign.
