When it comes to presentations in front of an audience, we tend to get scared. The fear of public speaking is the #1 fear people have; dying is #2. Don´t worry there is hope! Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool to use to help you communicate when you speak in front of people at work or at other occasions but you have to watch out for some of the common pitfalls people will do if they are not careful:

Size Up Your Audience: Be sure to know who your audience is and what they want to know and hear about. After you create a slide you should always ask "does this makes sense for my audience, is it too complicated, is it too simplified, am I insulting their intelligence?" If you do this then you will prevent loosing an audience.

K.I.S.S. Keep It Super Simple. Your presentation shouldn´t be the main attraction, YOU SHOULD BE! If you have too many pictures or words on a single slide then your audience will paying more attention to your slides than you. What you want to do is split up slides so that there isn´t too much happening on any 1 slide and you keep moving so the audience stays engaged.

Read The Audience. When you´re talking start noticing the audience and how they react to your speech. Are they tired? Do they look bored? Are they extremely interested? Based off their body language you should adjust your speech. If they are bored then tell a joke, if they are tired then ask for questions from the audience that you know will get responses. If they are interested then make sure you make your points clear so they understand your message.

Practice, Practice, Practice. There is no substitution for practicing. You might want to first start by practicing to yourself, then by practicing out loud, followed by practicing with a couple of people that will give you feedback. The more you practice creating and delivering a presentation the better you will become.
