So you´re on the job hunt and you want to build a resume. There are lots of things to consider with resume writing and there is no one right way to write a resume. Here are some resume writing tips that will help you get started.

Left Handed Bias. Most resume readers don´t have a lot of time so they will start by scanning the left side of the resume. To take advantage of this put numbers and major accomplishments first on the left hand side of the resume.

Customize Your Resume. This seems like a no brainer but change your resume so it´s tailored specifically for each job. Most people don´t take the time to make the resume tailored so right away you will have a little edge.

Include a Coversheet. Only a small percentage of people will send a coversheet with a resume. This will also set you apart from the rest of the crowd. Be sincere with what you put on the coversheet so it is not a generic coversheet. The more customized you can make it the better!

Put Relevant Experience First. Most of the time people will put their last job/project first on the resume. I would highly recommend that you put the experiences and jobs that are most similar to the job you for which you are applying. First impressions are everything with resumes so make sure you make a good one. If your first job on your resume is a administrative job you had and you are applying for a project management job then you may actually turn off the resume reader.

Say Thank You. Be sure to follow-up with a thank you note/call/letter/e-mail or all of the above. The more times you are contacting people the more they will remember you and the better you chances will be of getting hired.

Make sure you are doing more than just writing resumes. Be sure you follow up constantly and remember its quality over quantity. You might not be able to apply to as many jobs but each job that you apply to will be a better chance for an interview.
