What are the various causes of Female Infertility?
General factors that include Age: Female fertility starts its downward journey from the age of 27 and then nose dives after 35. After the age of 30, the chances of conception decrease by 3% to 5% every year. A woman reaches her Menopause at 50, which refers to the concluding chapter of her reproductive and child-bearing phenomenon.
Genetic factors that include many conditions like the androgen insensitivity syndrome
Hypothalamic- pituitary factors that include Hypothalamic Amenorrhea Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. On account of some measure of disturbance in the thyroid gland and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system, both of which regulate the process of reproduction in the females, the process of menstruation remains absent.
Ovarian factors that include Polycystic ovarian syndrome which results in an abnormally low production of follicle-stimulating hormone or FSH as a result of which, the follicles fail to produce a matured egg. This may make the female infertile. This problem also includes diminished ovarian reserve and Anovulation. The fact is that women are born with a finite number of eggs or oocytes and as the reproductive years go by, the number and the quality of oocytes start to weaken.
Diminished Ovarian Reserve is another ovarian factor in which the woman is affected as she advances in her age. Premature Menopause happens when the follicles start depleting even before the woman reaches menopausal age making her infertile. Menopause starts when her reproductive structure comes to the end and Luteal dysfunction or Luteal Phase Defect is responsible for Implantation Failure which can again leave a woman infertile. Ovarian Cancer obviously makes a woman infertile. Some other ovarian factors include Gonadal dysgenesis in the form of Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in which both the lutienizing hormone (LH)) as well as the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH is produced poorly and as a result, functional ovaries fail to develop.
Tubal or ectopic peritoneal factors include Endometriosis which is a medical condition in which the endometrial cells, within the womb, are deposited outside the uterine cavity. The uterine cavity lined by the endometrial cells is influenced by female hormones while those cells outside the uterus are also influenced by the same hormones. Symptoms like these generally aggravate with the passing of time, leading to infertility in females. Reversely, endometriosis is a common finding in women with infertility. Tubal peritoneal factors also include Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and comprise of various infections that are caused by several types of bacteria affecting badly a woman´s reproductive organs, appendix and part of the intestine around the pelvic area. However, when it involves the fallopian tubes, it gets blocked and halts the passage of the egg to enter the uterus, thus turning the woman unable to conceive. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease may also be caused by Pelvic Tuberculosis, the prognosis of which is equally negative in nature when it comes to the woman´s conceiving ability. Salpingitis is also a major cause of infertility in women.
Uterine factor includes Uterine Fibroids that may develop just under the lining of the uterine cavity (submucosal uterine fibroid) and may cause heavy menstrual bleeding. They are also responsible for infertility and miscarriage in women.
Cervical factors include Non-receptive cervical mucus and Cervical Stenosis. Cervical infertility refers to the inability of the sperm to pass through the mouth of the uterus because of an obstruction in its way (a) Due to inhospitable or inadequate cervical mucus; (b) Stenosis, which is also known as cervical narrowing; (c) Infections of the cervix with common STD (sexually transmitted diseases) like Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum and (d) Sperm allergy.
Thus female infertility can be caused from a number of factors. And so, suggesting an effective treatment is very important. Going for conventional treatments will not help much as it will not try to find out the root cause and will only suggest assisted reproduction techniques such as ICSI and IVF. On the other hand, holistic remedies analyzes the overall health and well being of the females and identifies the real causes and only then suggests remedies. These remedies come in the forms of Chinese medications, herbs, acupuncture exercise, diet and lifestyle changes to get the desired results. This approach of holistic remedies to cure infertility is so much more successful.
