True Health Care Reform

While the rhetoric seems to be at an all time high within both the American government and its citizenry, there seems to be a complete void when it comes to options that I would consider true health care reform. I must admit first and foremost that I am writing this article with a very biased opinion regarding health care. I am the father of four and my youngest son is the victim of health care as we know it in this country. He suffers from VIRA; Vaccine Induced Regressive Autism (if the drug industry can make up new diseases for their profit driven interests I find no problem doing the same) and while he is recovering from this malady, it is with no thanks to the current medical establishment. It is apparent to me that the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and other like-minded organizations have sold out the American public on a consistent basis for industry driven profits.

Make no mistake I do believe that the current medical system in this country and throughout the rest of the western, industrialized nations is in serious need of reform, whether they are socialist or capitalist in nature. Unfortunately, there seems to be no options on the table with which I can support. The situation that I find myself is proof that the industry run medicine to which we are now seemingly beholden is the cause of much of our problems (1 in five boys in my state of Illinois is diagnosed with a developmental disability and chronic disease in epidemic). I also find it hard to believe that we have been able to make it through millennia on this planet without the numerous prescriptions that now fill the majority of our medicine cabinets. It is apparent to me that traditional medicine as we now call it is the problem, not the solution.

Hypocrites, from which our medical doctors take their oath was a homeopath, thus making the true "traditional" medicine a practice that is no longer even recognized within the current system. Like cures like was a common theme of his theories which somehow morphed into what is now a bastardized system of symptom control and drug pushing. There is little curing of disease within the modern practice of medicine and there is also little doubt as to why; curing disease is not profitable. I believe we have all experienced the utter comedic response to the adverse side effects that are discussed during the pharmaceutical commercials that pervade more than fifty percent of network advertising; an asthma treatment that causes infection and even "asthma related death", an erection drug that can cause blindness or high blood pressure or heart attacks and anti-depressants that can increase the risk of suicide, to name just a few.

Within this current administration, President Obama has not addressed tort reform and has already cut a deal with the pharmaceutical industry. No doubt this is a product of the K Street lobbying efforts of these organizations and it is obvious that true health care reform for the benefit of the citizens of this country have not been considered. It is a sad state of affairs when homeopaths in this great nation are not allowed to practice on those that come to them. They are permitted to advise only. The FDA and FTC continue to harass supplement and vitamin companies about the health claims that are made. Somehow, these organizations have determined that anything that promotes health must be the result of a patented pharmaceutical.

The FDA recently sent a letter to Cheerios to advise them that the claims being made by their cereal that state that the consumers cholesterol levels can benefit from consuming their product constitutes a drug claim and that they must cease and desist from such advertising in the future. A cherry juice company was closed down by the FDA for claiming that cherry juice, high in antioxidants, could cure gout. Despite the fact that this statement is true, the juice manufacturer had to stop making this claim because the only thing recognized as therapeutic within the government must come from a prescription bottle. Given this atmosphere of complete industry control over our health care and the Obama administration´s obvious continuance of such policies, can we truly have health care reform?

Our son is recovering from autism with the assistance of homeopathy and other non traditional methods of treatment, something that modern medicine is unwilling to even address. Allopathic medicine as we know it in the west offers the families affected by autism no hope other than drugs to turn our children into automatons and institutionalization. While vaccines seemingly increase on the recommended schedule each year, we are inundated with chronic health issues affecting our children at younger ages.

Despite what the CDC, AMA and the American Academy of Pediatrics will tell you regarding the safety of vaccines, they have no clue. There has not been one study in the history of vaccination that looks into the long term ramifications of hyper stimulating our children´s immune systems with multiple vaccines in one doctor´s visit. Yet when you look at the chronic illnesses that are affecting our children and young adults; diabetes, acute arthritis, asthma, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia to name just a few, they are all auto immune diseases brought on by the body´s immune system attacking itself. Our doctors are given one class on nutrition in medical school and it pertains to how the food we eat effects the drugs we take. In the current climate of H1N1, washing hands, coughing into your sleeve, staying home if sick and the vaccines are the only options provided for care and containment. Nothing about Vitamin D3, nutrition and supplements that build the immune system and other natural therapeutic options are offered.

Is this the course that we wish to continue to pursue? Do we wish to maintain the status quo of a country that is over drugged, over vaccinated and chronically ill? Can we obtain true health care reform when industry continues to dictate said reform and our politicians are mere puppets? America´s political leaders currently in power have proved once again that whoring themselves to the profit driven industry that controls every aspect of traditional medicine is a bi partisan flaw and affects all of Washington D.C. This is not my idea of reform and it shouldn´t be yours.
