Kagay-anons Xplore Doodling @ Spruce
Fourth, Steph, Marie and Bon were given a canvass a day to fill up with their doodles. Armed only with plain black felt tip pens (better known as ´Pentel pens´ in the local lingo) the four artists finished off the two canvasses in less than half a day. The finished canvasses covered with their masterpieces are now on display at the Spruce store.
The four share a common pedigree as past and present illustrators of the Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan official campus newspaper.
Fourth, a layout artist and cartoonist, is also a photojournalist. Steph (or "Isteyp") is a freelance photographer and graphic designer, and creator of the Crusader comic strip Chibiness.
Marie is a freelance illustrator like Bon, who is now a professional photographer, illustrator and graphic artist. The two are the past and present illustrator of the Crusader comic series HOHO NGIHONG and are cyber artists serving clients here and abroad.
"It´s one of our corporate social responsibility activities to support local artists," said Trisha, one of the three Tamparong siblings (with Aimi and Vanessa) who run Spruce. "Next month Spruce will also feature a photo exhibit by another young artist Dustein Sibug."
A poster at Spruce´s show window explains the rationale to "Bring the Doodle the Love and Attention it Deserves" courtesy of www.answer.com:
"A quick glance at a doodle may show scribbles, random lines and shapes with no meaning or significance. However, with a little love and direction, these drawings have the potential to compete with some of the best art work there is. Just think of some of the famous art pieces out there. Aren´t some of them just simple "scribbles" that were given the extra love and attention they deserve?"
"It´s so much more than a simple drawing on a post-it or an unconscious scribble on your notebook paper done purely out of boredom. With the right care and approach, beautiful coloring pages can be created. Geometric and abstract designs along with wonderfully detailed pictures can grow from one simple, single line. The ideas and creative pathways are endless. Games, activities, even emotional healing can stem from a simple mark."
