BPA/P to welcome top outsourcing stakeholders.

Manila, Philippines – Top executives from more than 10 countries will attend the International Outsourcing Summit: Global Market Leaders Addressing Global Issues, according to an official of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines.

The international meeting is scheduled on October 20-21. Delegates from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, South Africa, the UK, and the US will participate in the international meeting. They include senior executives from global BPO companies and aligned industries such as telecom and network infrastructure and top officials of industry associations, said Jonathan de Luzuriaga, BPA/P executive director for industry affairs.

The summit is being organized by BPA/P with the support of the Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, Board of Investments, the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, and in coordination with strategic marketing communications firm TeamAsia. According to Mr. de Luzuriaga, its purpose is to examine the changing nature of the industry, identify and address challenges to growth, and build global partnerships to capitalize on increasing opportunities.

"Bringing together industry stakeholders is important to ensuring continuous industry growth, which is why we are organizing this groundbreaking summit," said Oscar Sañez, BPA/P CEO. "Because the Philippines is the number two offshore BPO center globally, this is a logical place to meet. As a result, we´re seeing major industry personalities sign on as presenters and panelists as well as a steady stream of delegate registrations. This is an important conversation, and the most influential people in the industry are anxious to participate."

Key issues up for discussion in the Summit include the changing landscape of the industry on a number of fronts. While 70% of offshore outsourcing spending still comes from the US, European spending has increased faster in 2009, resulting in changes in preferred outsourcing locations and language preference, according to the 2009 A.T. Kearney Global Services Location Index. Shifts in geographical preference, including significant gains in the Philippines and Southeast Asia and the weakening of Eastern European locations, also make this global summit of critical interest to stakeholders around the world, in the view of Mr. Sañez.

"In addition to cost and geography, quality of labor and other issues related to decentralized offshoring are of paramount interest because they potentially provide huge opportunities to emerging offshoring markets. Of course, they also introduce new challenges such as educational capacity and workforce readiness," said Mr. de Luzuriaga. "This in turn impacts another critical issue, the nature of work being outsourced. McKinsey & Company projects a profound shift to higher value services—or Knowledge Process Outsourcing—over the next five years."

Mr. Sañez believes the Summit provides the opportunity to demonstrate the Philippines´ new position of influence on the industry. "The International Outsourcing Summit allows us to publicly stake out our leadership role in the industry, and to demonstrate our influence on its development," he said.

The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) is the umbrella organization for the fastest-growing industry in the Philippines. BPA/P has made several significant contributions that further strengthened the Philippines´ position as an emerging global leader in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. BPA/P undertakes research to support and promote industry growth, and regularly conducts CEO-level briefings; works closely with government to ensure a BPO-friendly investment and operating environment, and with the educational sector to provide a reliable supply of knowledge workers.
