Paperback Or Hardcover?
If one has been reading books for a long period of time though, say since early childhood on up to the present, one may observe at least one difference between those hard cover bound books and the paperback cover editions.
That differnce is, that hard cover books are not as flexible to read as their paperback counterparts.
This writer has noticed that those hard cover types of books are suitable to read if one is sitting at a table with the book on said table. The weight of the pages on both covers keep mentioned pages where the reader wants them to be, down.
If, on the other hand, one is sitting in his or her favourite chair in a half lying or upright position, holding that hard cover book for an extended period of time can tire out one’s arm easily.
With the flexible paperback, one can hold the cover back or bend it so this won’t happen. Even if one wants to read while in a lying position, the paperback edition is also best suited for this because of it’s flexibility.
For after a period of time, holding on to that hard cover copy could provide some discomfort to the reader.
Do not get me wrong, I like hard cover bound books. They are good if one wants a copy of a book as a souvenir because it will no doubt last longer that its paperback bound cover counterpart.
Plus people who visit you and happen to spot a hard cover copy of a book on your coffee table might tend to have more respect for your hard cover edition and treat it with care. For most hard cover editions are more expensive to produce and purchase.
But if one wants to read a hard cover book, he or she would have to find a sitting, lying or half lying position that will make him or her more comfortable when perusing that book. So that his or her arm won’t get tired of holding a hard cover book he or she can’t bend to suit his or her comfortable position.
