8th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (WCCE8) - Challenges for a Changing World
Chemical Engineers see these challenges in our changing world at the top of their list of priorities as they seek to innovate, and develop new products and processes that are green.
"Challenges for a Changing World" is the theme of the World Congress of Chemical Engineering, being held in Montreal this week from August 23-27 at the Palais des congrès. The event is held every 4 years - it has been held only once before in Canada, again in Montreal in 1981. The conference is the result of collaboration in a city that has not one but two world-class Chemical Engineering Departments - at Ecole Polytechnique and McGill University - and with the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE).
Plenary and Keynote lectures will be delivered by renowned Chemical Engineers from around the world, invited for their distinctive vision of the future. For example Greg Lewin, President of Shell Global Solutions International, will be presenting on "The Energy Challenge for a Changing World". Gerhard Kreysa, Chief Executive of DECHEMA (the German Society of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology), will speak on "Climate Engineering - A New Challenge for Chemical Engineers". The major themes of the conference address many of the main issues of today: Energy, Green Processing and Intensification, New Materials and Processes, and Biotechnology.
The Conference Chair, Professor Philippe Tanguy from Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal, and the Vice-Chair, Professor Richard Munz from McGill University, have collaborated with an international panel of engineers to develop the conference program. "Clean technologies and energy efficiency are at the forefront of Chemical Engineering research, and this conference should highlight many of the latest developments related to these challenging issues", says Tanguy.
