Learn to Use, Troubleshoot Microsoft Vista. Training on Setup Maintenance Online Problem Solving
Vista is can be very unfamiliar and difficult to use but with a few tricks and strategies it can be one of the best Windows operating systems yet.
1) Turn Off User Controls. For most people User Controls is just annoying. To turn it off click on the windows button on the bottom left hand corner, click on your icon on the very top right of the menu (might be a flower, castle, or some other picture), the very last option in the list of options will be Turn off/on user controls. Select that option to turn off user controls. Now you will not get annoying pop-ups every time you do anything in Vista.
2) Set virus/spyware programs to run at night. Be sure to set your virus checker and spyware checker to run at a time you´re not using the computer. It will be different depending on your program but you can find it in the settings option.
3) Run Disk Defragmenter. After time the hard drive can start running slower over time and disk defragmenter is a good way to help prevent a slow hard driving. click on the windows button on the bottom left hand corner, click on "All Programs", then select the folder called "Accessories", The click on the folder called "System Tools", you will now see "Disk Defragmenter" as an option. Select the application and then run it. It may take a few hours so it´s best to let it run overnight.
4) Make Sure You Have Enough RAM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory but the only thing you need to know is that if your computer has 2 gigabytes or more of RAM you are fine. Vista says it can run on 1 gigabyte (half the amount of 2 gigabytes) but it won´t run effectively so it´s highly recommended you have 2-4 gigabytes of RAM.
5) Remove Programs form Running at Startup. Most startup programs will be located on the bottom right hand corner of the screen next to the time. Most programs have an option not to start during start-up, if you do not need a program to start when your computer does then turn it off. You will want virus checkers, spyware checkers, and firewall programs to load at start-up. Most other programs are personal preferences.
These points are a good starting point to making Vista easier to use and faster.
