CleanTECH San Diego Welcomes New Board Members

Barken will be a valuable asset to CleanTECH San Diego´s board, bringing his expertise and many years of experience in climate change policy analysis, offsets, and carbon credits. He is also a recognized leader in carbon accounting at Haskell & White, where he works as the IT Practice Leader, specializing in IT auditing and internal controls testing.
Barken currently serves as Treasurer for the U.S. Green Building Council San Diego Chapter. He´s also a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Group for the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol, where he serves on the Advisory Committee for the Climate Disclosure Standards Board. Barken also writes and speaks on carbon accounting, green building, and IT audit compliance, and is the author of How Secure Is Your Wireless Network? Safeguarding Your Wi-Fi LAN and Wireless Hacking: Projects for Wi-Fi Enthusiasts.
Caldwell´s experience as Policy Advisor to Mayor Sanders will bring a unique quality to the CleanTECH San Diego board, as he specializes in issues of clean technology, environmental matters, energy issues, and other strategic initiatives. Erik also serves as the Mayor´s representative to the San Diego City Council´s Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee.
Caldwell holds extensive experience with public policy, as he has previously worked as the Chief Deputy to California State Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel. As Chief Deputy, he provided policy and strategic guidance related to California sales and property tax issues. He has also served as Legislative Assistant to San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox, where he advised the Supervisor on fiscal, environmental and public safety issues, as well as state and federal legislation.
Whitton joins the CleanTECH San Diego board with extensive experience in real estate and business transaction law, with a particular focus on large-scale joint ventures, portfolio acquisitions, real estate development, and debt and equity financing and restructuring.
Whitton is the Managing Partner at Troutman Sanders, LLP, where he´s a member of the Executive Committee and a Practice Group leader. Whitton is considered one of the foremost experts in the acquisition, development, and financing of golf courses and country clubs, hotels, marinas, and other resort properties. He also has considerable experience in renewable energy development.
Whitton has spoken on global golf development and golf community planning, and has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital matters, and joint ventures and strategic partnering. Whitton also serves as president of the St. James Academy Foundation, is a Campaign Cabinet member for the United Way and sits on the Board of Directors for the Notre Dame Alumni Club of San Diego. He has also received the distinction of being named California Leader Lawyer in Real Estate by Chambers USA for three consecutive years.
