Interestingly, the Wall Street Journal and Whole Foods CEO John Mackey largely kept mum during the spending frenzy of the Bush Years. Nary was a word spoken about the huge increase in the Debt. Now it is an overwhelming concern for them both. Universal Health Care Reform. Curious, Mackey brags about Whole Foods Market paying 100% of premiums for team players with an annual deductible of $2,500. Peanuts for a $10 an hour worker. Of course, a CEO earning "up to or over" a million dollars annually obviously can´t relate to the burden of an annual deductible of $2,500. But wait.
"We also provide up to $1,800 per year in additional health-care dollars through deposits into employees´ Personal Wellness Accounts." I love "up to." No mention of drug coverage. If an employee gets the flu and misses work, is his "up to" reduced?
"Health care is a service that we all need," Mackey continue, "but just like food and shelter it is best provided through voluntary and mutually beneficial market exchange." Spoken like a true Robber Baron.
Statistics Mackey quotes are provided by Investor´s Business Daily that have been largely refuted.
Such panic over health care reform is indeed curious when words like "socialism" and "Hitler" are thrown around. Germany´s Universal Health Care dates back to 1883 and had absolutely nothing to do with Hitler. Under Hitler, Germany´s government was not socialism. It was Nazism.
Of what are these protestors really afraid?
As for me, I no longer shop at "Whole Paycheck." I buy my organics and wholesome food cheaper at local markets and mainstream grocery stores like Publix, Wal-Mart, and Sweetbay.
