Muslim, Christian And Jewish Leaders Upset Over Jerusalem Gay March

Robert Paul Reyes
Christians, Muslims and Jews living in the Holy Land don't agree on much of anything, but recently they did find some common ground.

Did they put their implacable differences aside to issue a joint declaration condemning racism & intolerance?

No, their common hatred of homosexuals brought these disparate religious groups together. The imams, rabbis and ministers are strongly opposed to an international gay pride parade scheduled to take place in Jerusalem in August.

We consider this offensive and harmful to the religious integrity of the city," said Sheik Taissir Tamimi, head of the Islamic court in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Jewish and Christian leaders made similar homophobic statements.

It's sad that Jerusalem, the city of peace, should be home to such intolerance. The secular Jews and Christians (I'm not sure there are any secular Muslims in Jerusalem) should speak out on behalf of their gay brothers and sisters.

These religious leaders are engaging in terrorism against gays and lesbians, it's incumbent upon freedom-loving people to condemn this blatant display of homophobia.

The Associated Press quotes Hagai Elad, the organizer of the parade:

"The march is the centerpiece of the seven-day WorldPride festival, intended to bring people of different faiths and cultures to a strife-torn city in an example of peaceful coexistence."

How sad that instead this peaceful march is pointing out that the only thing that brings some people together is their irrational fear of homosexuals.
