Zinedine Zidane: Violent Act Mars His Legacy

Robert Paul Reyes
Zinedine Zidane is one of the premier soccer players in the world, he has remarkable control over his body. His athlethic and acrobatic moves don't seem human, they appear to be computer generated images that defy the laws of physics.

Zidane's amazing skills were on display before an audience of billions in the World Cup final match. Zidane did not disappoint, in his last game of his brilliant career he played his heart out.

Overtime. World Cup Final. 70,000 screaming fans. A TV audience of billions. The perfect stage for a champion to show what he is made of.

Marco Materazzi, an opposing player engages in the age-old ritual of trash talking. Zidane takes umbrage and reacts like a brainless thug, viciously head-butting the player to the ground. Zidane may have remarkable control over his body, but he is unable to rein in his emotions.

Zidane drew a red card, and left the field in disgrace. His team, France, lost on penalty kicks. Zidane is one of the great penalty kick artists in the world, by the way.

Zidane apologized to children in a French television interview, but said he did not regret the incident because Materazzi had insulted his mother and sister.

Materazzi has admitted insulting Zidane, but denied that he verbally attacked his mother

Zidane sounds like a bar fly explaining to the arresting officer: But officer I had no choice, I split that guy's head open with a beer bottle, when he said my mother wears combat boots.

Because someone insults your mother, that doesn't give you carte blanche to engage in an orgy of violence. If you pummel a co-worker at the water cooler because he insulted your mother, you will be immediately fired.

Zidane is an idiotic thug, and he should be stripped of his award as the best player of the World Cup.
