Hey Ma! Grab Your Six Shooter, The President's Having A Meeting

Stan Grimes
The Presidentīs in town so letīs bring out the guns and show him "yes we can." That has been the theme lately when the President calls a town hall meeting. I donīt recall any big show of guns when G.W. Bush made his rounds or John McCain for that matter. Why are the boys bringing out their toys for this President? Kind of makes me wonder what their motives are.

When MSNBCīs Chris Matthews interviewed one of the gun carriers the man proudly said because "I can." Well guess what? I can go out on the sidewalk and flip the bird to our mayor passing by, but I donīt. Why? You figure it out. Personally, I choose not to make a spectacle out of myself and show some respect for the office. But apparently these gun-toting fellows couldnīt care less if they show respect to our President. Makes me kind of wonder. There is no doubt that some states allow individualīs to pack their six shooters in public. Thatīs cool. It is after all our Second Amendment right. Right?

All I can say is that Iīm glad you boys didnīt go into the actual town hall meeting with your guns showing. I think the FBI would be on you like stink on a skunk. They would smoke you right where you stood. Of course, that wasnīt your intention, right? Your intention was to show our President what kind of numb skulls you are. Apparently, because whether itīs legal or not is not really the issue, the issue is you as an individual. Whatīs going through your mind? Before you strapped the heat on did you think about where you were heading, or if it might look rather menacing to others? I doubt you heat packers thought about anything.

I am a strong believer in the Second Amendment. I have a weapon at home, but of course Iīm not going to invite the President for dinner and come down the stairs packing my heat. Why? Itīs pretty darn immature. Not only that, itīs pretty darn disrespectful. Plus, itīs my home and I choose to respect anyone in my home.

The President was in your home, your hometown, so thatīs how you show respect when someoneīs in your home? If I were the President (glad Iīm not) I probably wouldnīt go to your home again.

The Second Amendment says what it says, but I think itīs up to us as citizens to figure out the common sense part of things. Common sense would tell the average individual not to carry a gun in public when the Presidentīs coming to town. The majority of the people in the town halls did not carry guns, but they did practice their First Amendment rights and I think that idea carries more common sense than packing your pistol because you can under the Second Amendment rights.

Thankfully for you we live in a Democracy where you have rights, but unfortunately the government canīt teach you common sense. That has to be done at home.
