Software Training Program Reviews. Video Professor Self Study vs Online Live Personal Instruction
Video Professor is a very useful and is great for self-study; however, there are some things that video professor leaves out of his training. For instance, you can learn how to make pivot tables but it will not show you how to use it for your job. There are simply too many scenarios to cover in a self-study program. So what´s not covered?
• Tailoring the tools and techniques to your job.
You will know how to make a graph but which graph will be the right one for your particular situation. It´s like knowing how to use a jackhammer but not knowing when to use it. You want to use the right tool for the right job. Here is an example: If you are looking to graph, where all your money went for the month of January you might want to use a pie chart. However if you are looking to see what were your big items you might consider a bar chart. A pie chart is great to see roughly how big a specific item is compared to the whole. A bar chart is great for seeing individual values and how they compare to other values. Again it depends on your situation and your company.
• Presenting the information in a very readable and consistent way.
You want to be sure that what you are presenting is neat and useable. The easier it is to read the more productive and useful your work becomes. Would you rather read text on how to assemble a table or would you rather see pictures and a description of how to assemble the table. A way to apply this is by using templates in your documents, a template of how to do a budget, a memo, or even a presentation.
• Helping you with the areas where you do not understand as well.
Have you ever watched a video and no matter how many times you watched, it you still had trouble understanding? If you want to get through those barriers and really learn the topic, it helps to have an instructor that can assess your needs and give you the right help at the right time.
• Making your training more efficient by not spending, as much time on topics you already know.
Have you ever watched a video and you nearly fell asleep because you already knew the material and you were getting bored and wasting your time? If you have an instructor or coach you, they know when to speed up and when to slow down. They can tailor a program to your needs and your level to learn exactly what you want.
• Solving your immediate problems.
You have a presentation next week and need help now! An instructor can start with helping you with the presentation without going through many of the initial leanings. Not only will an instructor show you how to create a presentation but also they can give you tips on how to deliver and practice giving the presentation. They show you how to make technology work for you and how to make the deliver what you have created. This is a complete solution to the problem and you cannot that level of detail with a video class.
Video professor is a good tool but has some pieces missing if you are looking for the whole package. To make up for the gaps you might want to consider having a trainer, coach, instructor, or a peer help you with your learning.
