Sempra Energy Foundation grants FOOD Share $7,500
Each Thursday evening, from July 2 through August 6, the local community was invited to participate in a series of family activities and athletic events including 5K runs or walks, aquathons and half-mile swims. Booths promoting healthy lifestyles and featuring live entertainment also were part of the programming.
"The past six weeks have been a great experience for our staff and volunteers at FOOD Share, said Bonnie Weigel, CEO. "We cannot thank the Sempra Energy Foundation enough for sponsoring this weekly community event, and for helping to relay the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise."
"Sempra Energy Foundation has three priorities to help our local communities," said Michele Pettes, Public Affairs Manager Ventura County, Southern California Gas Company. "Helping people in need, helping the environment, and helping children."
Pettes said the foundation supports endeavors to promote health and wellness in the community.
"Harbor Lights was a perfect forum to highlight healthier life choices while also focusing on initiatives led by larger organizations and corporations, such as FOOD Share," she said. "FOOD Share is a cornerstone to our community and we need to continue supporting its mission to feed our friends and neighbors."
