Baltimore Career Offender Exiled to Over 21 Years in Prison for Heroin and Crack Cocaine Conspiracy

BALTIMORE, MD—U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Jamal Stewart, age 32, of Baltimore today to 262 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine and heroin, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his guilty plea, from 2004 until July 2008, Stewart was the leader of a drug organization that sold heroin under the brand name "Dynasty" and crack cocaine in the Westport section of Baltimore City. During the period of the conspiracy Stewart was observed by law enforcement in and around the "street shop," controlling the distribution of heroin and crack cocaine by street workers. In addition, law enforcement made seizures of narcotics, narcotics proceeds, and other evidence as a result of search warrants; have video surveillance of the operation of the street shop; and recorded conversations among the conspirators. Stewart admits that as part of the conspiracy he distributed at least 1 kilogram of heroin and between 1.5 and 4.5 kilograms of crack cocaine.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Baltimore City State´s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy and Assistant State´s Attorney Keri Brozilleri, the Baltimore Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney James T. Wallner and Special Assistant United States Attorney Christopher M. Mason, a cross-designated Baltimore City Assistant State´s Attorney assigned to EXILE cases, who are prosecuting the case.
