ISRAEL PULLS TROOPS OUT OF NORTH GAZA
Elite Israeli Golani Brigade troops backed by armor and engineering units engaged Palestinians in the settlements of Elei Sinai, Dugit, and Nassanit. Brigade operations entered the al-Atatra neighborhood on the outskirts of Beit Lahia that drew dozens of Palestinian terrorists armed with light weapons, homemade rocket launchers, and anti-tank rockets which proved no match for the Israeli's superior firepower, and elite military strategy.
Militants fired dozens of rockets at Israeli tanks and armored vehicle without any success, while Israeli Air Force, and elite snipers exacted a heavy toll on Palestinian terrorists.
Most of the Palestinian dead were militants, except that three civilians from one family died in the neighborhood of Sajayiyeh just east of Gaza city. Their home was hit by an Israeli missile. Four members of the family were injured.
The attack on the family home happened during a search by Israeli forces for tunnels and road-side bombs. The attack was believed to be an accident from a missile fired in support of Israeli ground operations, and was not targeted on the home.
Of the 45 dead Palestinians, 30 have been identified as Palestinian terrorists engaged in attacks on Israeli forces.
In a show of restraint, Palestinian terrorists fired on Israeli forces guarding the Karni crossing fortifications, in which Israeli forces chose not to return fire.
There remains two ground forces in Gaza in two main areas. These areas are between the Karni crossing and the eastern neighborhoods of Gaza City, and somewhere near the Sufa crossing in the southern Gaza Strip and the airport of Dahaniye near the City of Rafah.
Israeli officials have warned that ground operations could continue throughout the week, and may be expanded. The strategy is to use shock raids by ground forces supported by armor for short periods in different areas.
There have been no recent demands by the Palestinian Authority, and the Hamas government have not offered any word on the well being of the Israeli soldier that they kidnapped on June 25. Israel has rebuffed all offers of a ceasefire that are not based on the immediate return of the kidnapped Israeli soldier, and a halt to the launching of Palestinian rockets into Israel. It was said today that prior to the June 25 kidnapping of the Israeli soldier that the Israeli Prime Minister was planning a release of 1,500 Palestinian Prisoners as good faith, but that plan has been shelved since the June 25 kidnapping. Israel has constantly said that they will not negotiate with terrorists.
