What is generally recognized as one of the world´s oldest baseball cards-- an 1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings trade card-- was sold for $51,121 in a recent online auction. The Peck & Snyder card was authenticated by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) and highlighted SCP Auctions summer online auction, which netted $1.5 million. It was among a large quantity of retro baseball items that sold for impressive amounts of money despite a still recovering U.S. economy.

"Once again, our clients have proven that demand for sports collectibles across the entire market remains strong," said David Kohler, president of SCP Auctions. "Whether it´s a high grade tobacco card, autographed Ruth item, or something a little more modern, we saw great participation in our sale at every level."

"We certainly appreciate the passion our clients show for the material in our sales," added Kohler.

Additional vintage baseball card highlights include a 1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Lenox Brown Back SGC 30 GOOD ($20,714), 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson PSA FR 1.5 ($8,488), 1915 Cracker Jack #103 Joe Jackson PSA NM-MT 8 ($42,517) and a T210 Old Mill Series 8 Joe Jackson PSA GOOD 2 ($85,594), which was the second highest price realized in the sale.
