Divorce Tips For Men - Four Common Mistakes To Avoid
We are subject to all of these things and more by the distress of divorce. It's easy to think and act impulsively and to over look common sense things while in this state. Four common divorce pitfalls to be avoided will be discussed in order to help you counter these normal human failings.
1) Once you're certain that you're getting a divorce, your wife shouldn't receive correspondence meant for your eyes only. All numbers and addresses that are shared jointly with your wife should be changed. This includes phone numbers, email, and land mail. These seemingly small details are easily overlooked and may do a lot of damage.
2) If your spouse has hired a lawyer, you must do the same. Don't kid yourself that you don't need one. You do. You can't compete against a professional unless you're a lawyer yourself.
3) Never allow the shock of divorce to stun you into passivity. This passivity can be caused by guilt, denial, or simply not knowing what to do next. Take action after you've allowed a few days for the shock to wear off. Otherwise your passivity may be exploited by your wife to get want she wants from the divorce.
4) During the divorce process, never yield to angry emotions. Your ability to think and plan are sabotaged by these emotions. Your spouse may exploit your behavior to convince a judge that you're unfit which will damage your case. If outrageous threats or claims are made by your spouse, your angry emotions are justified. However, never counter her anger or threats with angry displays or threats of your own.
A divorce can be a very volatile and emotional affair but the person with the cool head will prevail.
