The Stress-Free Lifestyle You Deserve?

The other day, I heard a radio ad from one of those companies that purports to be able to get people out from under their load of debt. Part of their tag line included a promise to allow people to achieve the "stress-free lifestyle you deserve." I have a couple of problems with that.

First, most people are already experiencing the lifestyle they deserve. I realize there are some exceptions, including those who have been victims of war, illness, violence, theft, and similar maladies. But, in general, I´ve found that people get what they deserve out of life.

If someone is deep in debt and is therefore unable to live stress-free, it is probably because of their own irresponsibility and carelessness. Excuse me, but I don´t think irresponsible and careless people deserve a stress-free lifestyle. They made their bed and they should have to sleep in it.

Second, even if someone were able to wave a magic wand and make some people debt-free in an instant, many of them would find themselves in the same predicament within days. Unless their attitude about money and debt changed, getting them out of debt would prove to be only a temporary solution. It would like cleaning up a pig. A clean pig is still a pig, so it wouldn´t be long before the animal would find another mud hole to wallow in.
