California Democratic Party Delegates Vote to Endorse Steve Bradford for 51st Assembly District
Councilmember Bradford said, "With the crucial vote among my party´s delegates now concluded, I am extremely pleased to be the one-and-only, official California Democratic Party-endorsed candidate in the race for the 51st Assembly District. I am the Democratic Party´s candidate-of-choice on the ballot for the September 1st Special Election Primary that takes place one month from now. There is no greater seal of approval for a Democrat running for office than to have your party´s endorsement. I´m proud and honored to have my party´s delegates backing my campaign for state Assembly."
The special election primary in the 51st Assembly District takes place on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. The special general election will be held on November 3, 2009.
Gardena Councilmember Steven Bradford is serving his fourth four-year term on Gardena´s City Council. He has been a four-time Mayor Pro Tem in more than 12-years on the city council. In March 1997, he became the first African-American to be elected to represent the people of Gardena on its city council.
Steve Bradford is the senior member on the Gardena City Council. He is widely regarded in Gardena municipal government for holding quarterly ´Up-Close´ meetings and ´Open Council´ office sessions to provide local residents and business people regularly scheduled opportunities to offer citizen´s input on Gardena city affairs.
As a Gardena Councilmember, he maintains close ties to the community through his involvement on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Committee. He is past president of the Hollypark Homeowners Association, Immediate Past Chair of the Black History Month Celebration Committee, Gardena PTA member, and a volunteer coach in Gardena´s youth sports programs.
Steve Bradford graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills where he earned a Bachelor´s Degree in Political Science and a Paralegal Certificate. He previously served as the District Director to the late U.S. Representative Juanita Millender-McDonald. For the past 10-years, he has worked for Southern California Edison as a Regional Public Affairs Manager.
