COALITION FORCES KILL TALIBAN IN CONVOY
Coalition forces found a weapons cache in the Sangin district of southern Helmand on Sunday. They then identified a convoy connected with the cache. The convoy was attacked by 30 coalition force members. Earlier Afghan police reported that 11 gunman had been killed, and that number has now been revised to 20 gunman, believed to be Taliban.
Reports later confirmed that there were two attacks on coalition forces. A military statement said that “The coalition attacked the engaging enemy element as well as a second group attempting to reinforce the original group.”
Coalition command said that two soldiers were wounded and airlifted to a medical facility, where they have been listed in stable condition.
Four British troops fighting in coalition forces were seriously wounded in the Sangin region last week. This has prompted British Military Command to ask Tony Blair for more troops, and equipments, and in a warning to British parliament last week they said that the war in Afghanistan could be lost, if Britain did not approve more troops, and equipment for Afghanistan.
U.S. Military Intelligence has reported that the Sangin region has been friendly toward Taliban, and al-Qaeda militants. Senior coalition commanders in the area said that the region will receive greater attention, as more weapons caches are uncovered.
