Cheryl C. Malandrinos
Today we welcome evangelist and author Shay Bills. Her book, Is Your Ghost Holy? discusses eight principles for evaluating your walk in the Spirit. Weīll talk to her about her life, her ministry, and her new book.

Welcome Shay. Itīs a pleasure to have you with us. Can you please start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Thank you so much for having me.

As you know, my name is Shay Bills and I was born and raised in Paris, TX. I attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas with a Bachelorīs degree in English Literature and a Masterīs degree in Education Administration. I taught high school English for eight years before becoming a full time entrepreneur. I am married to a wonderful man, Terry. I have a daughter, Ariole and two step-sons Braxton and Terrance. As an Evangelist, I spend my days sharing the Word of the Gospel, trying to do as the Lord wills and I am so thankful writing, "Is Your Ghost Holy," was a part of His plan for my life. I enjoy a variety of activities and I love spending time with my family

Youīre a very busy woman. How do you juggle all your roles, your ministry and writing too?

It does get to be a bit much at times, but that is when I am at my best. My ministry is who I am and so I donīt consider it a part of the juggling. I will admit that this new chapter in my life as author has made my calendar of events more eventful. As a writer, I enjoy it so much that I donīt write with the intent to publish but for the enjoyment of it and if God births a book out of that, I am thankful.

I admit that I am always interested in hearing about how people were called by God to their ministries. Can you briefly share your story?

A few years ago, maybe around five or six, I was looking in the mirror while on my sickbed and I heard the voice of the Lord say, "I have chosen you Evangelist." I remember freezing and thinking maybe I was imagining it but those words were confirmed over and over in my life. Even in my stubbornness to accept, I found myself consumed with the Gospel, consumed with the work of the Lord and consumed with strengthening my relationship with Christ. Until recently, I was running from my calling simply because I felt my agenda was more important. As you know, the Lord quickly showed me His way was the only way.

Letīs talk about Is Your Ghost Holy?. What made you decide to write this book?

That is a good question and I have to say that I never sat down with the intention to write a book. My intention when writing was in response to my own personal desire to evaluate my own walk in the Spirit. The Lord at the time was opening my mind and heart to receive a greater and more meaningful depth in Him. In response, I would write daily and log my inquisitiveness as well as the revelations discovered. Though the title of the book was initially the spring board many years before the books release, my writings between then and this past year, I thought, were solely for my benefit.

This book discusses eight principles for evaluating your walk in the Spirit. Why is it important to do this?

Vital is the word I would like to use because these principles assist in "sustaining" life. The word "important" for some can be temporal and for others may not carry a lot of weight. The eight principles: Truth, Life and Death, Faith, Love, Change, Baptism of the Holy Ghost, Blasphemy and the Power of the Holy Ghost all work in the life of the believer to ensure their "sustainability" in the world, not their importance. What is important to you today may not be important to you tomorrow. But what is vital to sustain life, is everlasting.

In your Introduction, it says, "It has become trendy to modify worldly speech, songs, dance, and programs to fit the church, or what some call "church" in this time. Can you expand on this statement a bit?

Certainly. In many cases in our churches today, all you have to do is watch television or listen to the radio and you will hear some of the same "hooks, sayings, clichéīs, dances and titles on programs" in the church. The influence has been reversed and is making the effectiveness of the house of God weak. The side effects include people coming to the house of God to be entertained for two or three dollars in a collection plate, singers singing for the sake of being heard instead of ushering in the Spirit of the Lord and titles of programs resembling nightclub events instead of the salvation, liberty and deliverance offered in the name of Jesus Christ.

What is the most important lesson readers will learn from Is Your Ghost Holy?

Readers will learn that the question being asked is an individual question from the Lord. They will learn that we serve a God who does not change and His reason for asking the question is to get us to realize we have and are in need of restoration. We, His children, have left our first love and unless we return, our Holy Ghost is not as holy as we think. Recognizing that we have lost fellowship with Christ and that we have in many instances neglected to allow His Spirit to flow through us is the first step to restoration with our Father. He is waiting for us to act and as a loving Father; He wants to welcome us back to Him.
