Republicans: The Party of "No"... Blacks?
Representative Mike Castle (R) from Vermont back in June held a town hall meeting in which some whacko began ranting that Obama was not a citizen of this country. The amazing part of this scene was the backers behind her booing and agreeing with her. What? We´ve nothing better to do? Castle tried to squelch the entire catastrophe by telling the crowd he believed Obama to be a natural born citizen of this country. The crowd didn´t want to hear it.
Is this an isolated occurrence? No. I remember a story broke by CNN´s Lou Dobbs of a young soldier refusing to go to the Middle East because he didn´t believe his president was legitimately the president. Why? The soldier defended his position by stating that his President was not really a citizen of this country. Is something else at work here? After all, it could be said that John McCain was born in Panama so therefore he could not have served as President if he had won the election. No, I think there is something much more sinister at hand here, racism.
Personally I believe there is a fraction of the Republican radical rightwing that is totally angered because a Black man became President. The good ol´ boy mentality still exists. "No sir, we aint havin´ any Black boys in our government." Sad? Yes, this is very sad. After all, this is the year 2009 and racism should be gone and forgotten. It is neither. Racism has not fallen by the wayside just because an African American and his family reside in the Whitehouse.
I call these people whackos when in fact they are sick. They are sick with hatred and ignorant to the facts. Everyone knows a copy of the President´s birth certificate has been in circulation for months. It has been certified as authentic. Barack Obama is a legal citizen and he just happens to be Black. Two things these wingnuts won´t accept. Now, to add to their delusion a couple of congressmen are introducing a bill in Congress which would require all presidential nominees or hopefuls produce a birth certificate before running for President. Gee, it just so happens this legislation has been introduced after a Black man won by a landslide the Presidency of the United States. Coincidence? I don´t think so.
Amazingly there are still 2nd Amendment paranoids out there voicing their belief that Barack Obama is going to take away their right to bear arms. In fact, the President vowed that he supported the right "to bear arms" and would not take anyone´s guns away from them.
In fact there is still a faction of voters out there who believe our President is a Muslim. He is not and has confirmed he is a Christian many times. So what is to be learned from all of these accusations and the spreading of information?
Republicans are paranoid. Perhaps Americans are paranoid. Or perhaps our land is not as "color blind" as we claim. Maybe racism continues to rear its ugly head among ultra conservative Republicans…maybe they´re not so ultra conservative. Maybe it´s the Republican Party…the party of "no." Perhaps it´s the party of "no blacks."
