Interview with JD Seamus, author of Last Call
Whether pondering life´s most absurd or most wonderful moments, or showcasing a character´s foibles or triumphs, JD Seamus is dynamic new voice in the world of fiction. Seamus may make you blush, he may make you cry, but he will certainly leave you entertained. Today, Seamus is happily at work on his sixth book in Central Florida and dividing his time between his family and Braves and Jaguar games.
Seamus is also the author of Last Call, a mystery published by Capital Press. We interviewed this talented wordsmith to find out more about his new book and his life as a published author.
Thank you for this interview, J D. Can you tell us briefly what your latest book, Last Call is all about?
Short description and I forget the reviewer who used it originally but Last Call is best described as Cheers meets the Sopranos. My book is about a diverse group of people coming together to help a mutual friend. Sounds boring, but it´s funny as hell because these are regular people doing things they´ve never done before. The book starts as a dark comedy but loses all areas of darkness quickly. It´s typical of everything I write. I try to be serious but for some reason I can´t. Guess I´m just too damned happy.
Can you tell us who or what was the inspiration behind your book?
The inspiration was the characters in the actual bar in NY that I used as the location for Last Call. The group was so amazing that the book almost wrote itself.
Is this your first published book and if so, can you tell us your experiences in finding a publisher for it?
Tough. As I said earlier, during the period that I shopped Last Call and received my fair share of rejection, the book was winning an astounding amount of book contests.
How has Capital Press been to work with?
Excellent. Small with a really talented staff that is very professional.
Do you have an agent?
No. Had 3 and none did a thing for me.
Can you tell us how long it took you to write your book and also how long it took from the time Capital Press sent the contract and the time it was released?
Approximately a year to write the book and editing took another six months. It took 18 months after Capital Press delivered the contract for book release.
Do you have any words of inspiration from other writers who would like to be wearing your shoes?
It´s all a talent and chemistry hook up. Oddly, when I was being turned down I was winning almost everything in sight in book contests. It was a ´not good enough´ on one hand and ´best´ on the other.
I understand that you are touring with Pump Up Your Book Promotion in August via a virtual book tour. Can you tell us all why you chose a virtual book tour to promote your book online?
Dorothy Thompson in a word. She is the best. It was a no brainer. The number of books bought today over the internet almost
makes brick and mortar outdated.
What´s next for you?
Wrapping up the Sequel. While I´m completing it I´m going back and forth with a serial killer book which will also be sequeled.
Thank you for this interview, J D. Can you tell us how we can find out more about you and your new book?
Either my website, through Dorothy, Blu Sky Media or Amy Collins with Cadence.
