Hundreds of Addicts Killed by Deadly Drug Cocktail

Hundreds of drug addicts have been killed recently in Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia after ingesting Fentanyl-laced heroin. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic drug prescribed by physicians as a painkiller. It is 80 to 100 times more powerful than morphine and can kill humans in small doses.

"Fetanyl can be up to 50 times stronger than heroin," said an undercover DEA agent.

"The drug can be lethal just on its own, and matching it with heroin makes it even deadlier."

According to officials with the Chicago Police Department, a West Side gang member has been arrested and they hope the arrest will lead them to the main supplier of the deadly Fentanyl-heroin cocktail. Fentanyl-laced heroin has also appeared in central Ohio where, over the last month, three cases of heroin with fentanyl have been investigated.

Meanwhile in Chicago, federal agents raided the residences of alleged gang members early Wednesday morning in an effort eliminate the deadly Fentanyl- heroin drug mix that has created havoc on Chicago streets and hospital emergency rooms.

The pre-dawn raid, dubbed "Operation Snakebite," took place at the Dearborn Homes housing project in Chicago. Federal investigators said they had the housing project under surveillance for more than a year.

Authorities believe the housing project might be ground zero for the deadly drug which is believed to have killed over 60 addicts.

Chicago police officers worked with the feds during the raids. According to Police Superintendent Phil Cline, officers had 48 arrest warrants and 10 search warrants, which they served Wednesday.

In addition to the arrests made at Dearborn Homes on Wednesday, Cline said, "We even expect some arrests out of state in connection with this."
